The IWC Ref. R820AD was produced from the late 1960s into the early 1970s and represents a refined yet practical example from the “Old Inter” era. The case measures approximately 36mm, which was considered slightly oversized for the period, and its rounded profile with moderate thickness offers a noticeable wrist presence without being overly bold.
The dial features a silver sunburst finish, fitted with three-dimensional bullet-shaped indexes and sharp dauphine hands. While the design remains understated, the dotted minute track and framed date window add subtle depth and enhance legibility.
Inside is IWC’s well-regarded automatic Caliber 8541B, equipped with the Pellaton winding system. Known for its durability and efficient winding performance, it delivers stable reliability in daily use. The semi quick-set date—operated by moving the hands back and forth—retains the appealing mechanical character typical of vintage IWC.
